USA Triathlon Club Nationals to Take Place for the First Time Since 2016 as Part of New Jersey’s Largest Triathlon
West Windsor, New Jersey – July 19, 2018 – Anything can happen when you swim, bike and run; and this weekend more than 3,300 athletes will attempt to do just that at the 2019 New Jersey State Triathlon. For the first time in 2019, the event is hosting the USA Triathlon Club National Championships where triathlon clubs from across the country will have the chance to compete for national titles and bragging rights.
Club Nationals will be taking place for the first time since 2016, with scoring based on the combined performance of their individual members over two days of racing. The national competition will be divided into three divisions based on club size: Division I (26+ participating members), Division II (11-25 participating members), and Division III (3-10 participating members). Men and women will be scored separately. Awards will be presented to the top-three men’s and women’s clubs in each division, using combined results from the sprint- and Olympic-distance races.
“We’re thrilled to be able to host athletes from all over the country at Mercer County Park, which is an incredible triathlon venue,” said Larry Redrow, Executive Race Director.
The sprint distance event is scheduled for Saturday, July 20 and Olympic-distance triathlon on Sunday, July 21. Both events will take place at Mercer County Park, offering athletes a spectacular course that swims in the calm Mercer Lake, a flat and fast bike ride around the scenic park and a run to the finish in front of thousands of cheering spectators.
The weekend-long triathlon festivities include a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo and a finish line festival featuring music and a beer garden. In 2019, the event is hosting the USA Triathlon Club National Championships where Triathlon Clubs from across the country will have the chance to compete for national titles and bragging rights.
Event weekend will also feature the story of Team Brandon, two New Jersey triathletes Ted Kucowski and his son Brandon, an assisted athlete, who are returning to the event after a 10-year hiatus. Competing as a Duo Team, Brandon floats in a kayak tethered to his father for the swim portion, then rides in a racing wheelchair that his father pulls behind his bike and then pushes during the run. In partnership with the New Jersey Lottery, their inspirational story will be promoted across the event’s social media channels.
