Attendees will receive first look at influential research study
TROY, Mich. – At the 2018 Running USA Industry Conference, attendees will have the opportunity to attend the general session My Runners: Where Are They Going and Will They Come Back?
The panel, hosted by Mary Wittenberg, Global CEO of Virgin Sport, will debut an extensive, in-depth study conducted by Running USA on the subject of runner retention, while bringing together key industry leaders to discuss how race organizers can win back runners and even more importantly attract new runners to run their races.
For the past two years, the running industry has seen the number of road race finishers decline, a trend being felt by races from coast to coast. While much discussion has focused on the flattening of the sport, it’s time for the industry to start finding answers in how to reverse the trend.
“It’s a fact many road races are no longer experiencing the growth from past years,” said Rich Harshbarger, Running USA CEO. “While numbers are down, our sport is healthy, and in many respects this dip offers an opportunity for race organizers to redefine their events and start to reach a new demographic.”
This fall, Running USA conducted a detailed survey focused on runner retention. The comprehensive survey was shared with runners throughout the United States, with more than 4,700 runners sharing feedback.
The final report will give the industry a starting point to start gaining answers as to why runners are leaving the sport and start gaining answers as to how organizers can attract new runners to their events. Conference attendees will have the first opportunity to purchase the complete survey results upon the conclusion of this session in Austin.
