LA County’s Only Half Ironman Distance Triathlon
Triathletes and runners of all levels will attempt to conquer the mountain at the Sport Chalet Magic Mountain Man Triathlon (M3Tri), LA County’s only half Ironman distance* triathlon. Irvine based race management company Renegade Racing is teaming with title sponsor La Canada, CA retailer Sport Chalet on Saturday and Sunday, October 8-9, 2011. Now a two-day event, the weekend will include 5K and 10K runs on Saturday and an Olympic distance** triathlon on Sunday with the half Iron distance race. Triathletes will start with a swim at Castaic Lake and then bike through roads around the greater Castaic area before finishing back at the lake. All runs will take place on the paths and trails looping around Castaic Lake.
An exciting addition this year is the involvement of the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF) as the designated charity. A world leader in helping individuals with physical challenges get involved – and stay involved – in sports, CAF is offering a fundraising program as part of the Sport Chalet Magic Mountain Man Triathlon & Run.
“Sport Chalet is excited to team up with Renegade Racing for the Second Annual Sport Chalet Magic Mountain Man Triathlon & Run in 2011,” said Jacqueline Collard, Sport Chalet Chairman and Senior Marketing Manager. “This event gives participants the opportunity to meet the challenges of a 5K or 10K run or long or Olympic distance triathlon. Sport Chalet is a proud partner of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and has selected CAF as the beneficiary of this event. Whether participants are conquering the mountain or their own personal challenges, Sport Chalet is happy to be involved.”
“CAF looks forward to expanding the partnerships with Renegade Racing and Sports Chalet through the 2011 Sport Chalet Magic Mountain Man Triathlon & Run,” says Torrie Tinley of The Challenged Athletes Foundation®. “CAF is honored to be named the event’s official beneficiary and is grateful for Sport Chalet’s and Renegade Racing’s continued support of CAF’s mission to provide hope and opportunities to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue sports. This exciting event series is a great way to work with other fitness-focused organizations to spread awareness, celebrate sport, and raise funds for physically challenged individuals to be able to live healthy, active lives and participate in the sports they love.”
Participants in the program receive additional benefits in exchange for meeting their fundraising minimums for their event, including race entry, pre-race dinner, CAF technical training shirt, race belt, water bottle, and more awesome swag to add to their race kit. In M3 Tri’s third year, Renegade Racing expects to draw professional and celebrity triathletes to this year’s event.
Professional triathlete and water polo Olympic silver medalist Julie Swail Ertel, will offer training tips at local Sport Chalet clinics leading up to the event. “We are excited to partner with Sport Chalet for a second year on the M3 Tri. Their involvement continues to propel this event as one of the leading triathlons in Southern California,” said
Jonathan Pauley, Race Director of Renegade Racing and long time supporter of CAF. “The M3 Long Course Tri is currently the only half Ironman distance race in Los Angeles County, and Santa Clarita/Castaic is an ideal location for such an event. While the course is challenging, athletes can expect breathtaking views of the area in addition to pure satisfaction at the finish. This is one race from which athletes can earn major respect.”
