GFNY Global Cycling Marathon Series heads to Playa Blanca for GFNY Panama

NEW YORK CITY, Feb 9, 2018 – GFNY, the global cycling marathon series continues to expand its GFNY World events with the inaugural GFNY Panama to be held on October 21, 2018.

GFNY Panama will start and finish from the Playa Blanca Beach Hotel and Resort in  Playa Blanca, Farallon, located 140km from Tocumen (PTY) airport, Panama’s main international airport.

GFNY Panama offers two distance options. The long route will cover 170km with 1700 meters of climbing and serves as a qualifier for the Racer Corral Qualification at the 2019 Campagnolo GFNY World Championship in NYC. The medium, non-competitive route covers 90km and 590 meters of climbing.

The route will pass through Parque Eólico, the largest wind farm in Central America. Here, riders will be faced with challenging headwinds and crosswinds. After Parque Eólico the course will start to climb and take riders on a tour through several small towns across Cordillera up to San Juan de Dios before making the decent to Juan Diaz and taking Panamerican Road to the finish line.

“Central America has a great passion for cycling and we are very excited to bring GFNY to Panama,” said Lidia Fluhme, President and co-founder of GFNY. “The GFNY Panama race course travels though stunning, tropical, lush nature, which will make for a breathtaking experience for the riders. GFNY Panama riders and their families will have a great time relaxing in Playa Blanca before and after the race.”

“Bringing GFNY to Panama is a game changer for the world of Cycling in Panama,” said Jorge Urrutia, co-founder of GFNY Panama. “For several months we have been exploring different routes and we have found the perfect routes for GFNY Panama in Cocle, where you will get head and tail winds, rolling hills, great climbs, beach and mountains. You will pass by the largest Eolic Park in Central America and La Pintada, one of the most historic towns in Panama.”
