Texas’ largest standalone half marathon returns this weekend with two days of running; Walk up 5K and half marathon registration available at the Health & Fitness Expo; Dozens of runners will take the Locos Challenge racing in Dallas and Mexico City in one day; Texas’ own Bob Schneider to headline the post race concert on The Lawn at Reunion
DALLAS – March 2017 – One of the largest and most exciting running weekends in Texas hits Dallas this weekend and there’s still time to lace up your shoes as the 8th annual Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon returns with two days of running March 18 – 19, 2017. More than 14,000 runners from all 48 states and 14 countries will line up in anticipation on Saturday’s 5K or Sunday’s half marathon.
“Dallas has a tremendous running community, which truly makes this event feel like a 13.1-mile block party,” said Madora Mak, Event Manager. “Whether you’re taking on the 5K or half marathon it’s a great way to explore downtown’s famous sights and scenery while experiencing an incredible achievement. Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo where runners can find race registration, numerous vendors showcasing the latest in running gear, sports apparel and health and nutritional information. The Expo takes place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, Hall B on Friday, March 17 from 12 pm. to 6 pm. and Saturday, March 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Event weekend will once again feature two days of racing with the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K on Saturday, March 18 at 7:45 am and the half marathon on Sunday, March 19 at 8:00 am. Participants can take the “Remix Challenge” by running on Saturday and any distance on Sunday to earn the coveted Remix Challenge medal in addition to each race’s finisher medals.
Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon will take off from Young Street and Lamar Street (near the Omni Dallas Hotel) and take runners on a tour of downtown including the spectacular sights of Deep Ellum, Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, The Bishop Arts District and Houston Street Bridge where participants will get a firsthand look at the Dallas skyline. The course will finish at The Lawn at Reunion.
Runners will stay motivated with local bands performing through the streets of Dallas, along with spectators lining the route to the finish line. Upon finishing, participants are invited to relax and celebrate with family and friends at the finish line festival and post race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series headlined by Bob Schneider.
For runners looking for an extra challenge, 45 athletes are taking on the exciting and arduous “Locos Challenge” by running the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon in the morning and flying to Mexico City to run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Mexico City Half Marathon on Sunday night.
