MARBLE FALLS, TX (May 2, 2012) – Adilet Imambekov raced to victory in his first ever full distance triathlon on Sunday as HITS Triathlon Series set up shop in Marble Falls, Texas for the weekend. He boasted a final time of 11:52:33. The 30-year-old athlete has had his eye on a full distance race since he began competing in the sport of triathlon two years ago.
“My first goal was to finish in under twelve hours,” said Imambekov. “Winning was a surprise, but I knew I was in good shape during the run and I felt great.”
Imambekov is originally from Kazistan, but now hails from Houston, Texas and completed his first half distance race in February at HITS Triathlon Series – Corpus Christi, Texas. He set Marble Falls as his first full distance race soon after. In preparation for his first 140.6, Imambekov traveled throughout Texas to train on challenging courses.
“I drove 45 minutes outside of Houston to train so that I would be ready for this course,” he said. “My training was on similar terrain and that helped me a lot today.”
Deborah Battaglia of Salt Lake City, Utah again raced her way to glory with HITS Triathlon Series. She picked up her sixth consecutive full distance victory of the series in Marble Falls in a time of 12:24:32 to also finish second overall. Also picking up an overall win was 36-year-old Benjamin Drezek of Denton, Texas. He was first to cross the line in the sprint distance race on Saturday with a time of 1:11:09.
“This series is in its first year and I was impressed,” said Drezek. “I had some friends who raced in Corpus [Christi] and I was hearing good things, so I gave them a shot. I like the challenge of triathlon and there was definitely enough of it on this course.”
The sixth race in the new series, HITS Triathlon Series offered five distances in Marble Falls, Texas and welcomed over 700 athletes to Lakeside Park for a weekend of racing. The event continued to grow the sport of triathlon as new competitors got hooked on swimming, biking and running in the HITS Open. Seasoned athletes, however, were welcomed to the shores of Lake Marble Falls for a pristine open water swim and roads of central Texas for challenging bike and run courses.
Thanks to the support of the City of Marble Falls and city officials like city manager Ralph Hendricks, HITS Triathlon Series plans to return to Marble Falls, Texas April 27-28, 2013. Registration for all distances at the 2013 3vent will open soon and is available at www.HitsTriathlonSeries.com.
