Friday night race is part of the 2018 Bring Back the Mile Tour and offers one of the largest prize purses for a road mile in the country
(PITTSBURGH) – The GNC Live Well Liberty Mile, downtown Pittsburgh’s only night time road race, will return on Friday, July 20. The 2018 race will feature six waves of runners starting with the recreational level and ending with professional athletes. America’s fastest milers will compete for one of the largest road mile prize purses in the country.
The American Development Pro Mile will feature $30,000 in guaranteed prize money with each race champion awarded $5,000. The GNC Live Well Liberty Mile is also part of the Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour 2018. The USATF-certified, u-shaped course takes participants through the Cultural District in downtown Pittsburgh.
Last year, Ben Blankenship and Emily Lipari won their American Development Pro races in 4 minutes, 5 seconds and 4:35, respectively. Blankenship defended his title after winning the 2016 race in 4:02, while rising star Lipari claimed her first crown at her third appearance in the City of Champions.
“This one-mile road race gives veteran milers and novice runners and alike the unique opportunity to run one of the Steel City’s busiest streets at night,” said Patrice Matamoros, P3R CEO and Race Director. “We expect over 2,000 runners of all ages and abilities to make it a ‘night at the races’ on Friday, July 20.”
All GNC Live Well Liberty Mile participants will receive the following perks:
- Men’s or women’s finisher’s shirt
- Access to a closed, USATF-certified course
- Pre- and post-race festivities
- Chip-time with instant online results
- Virtual goodie bag email with exclusive deals and promotions for race participants.
Participants can purchase GNC Live Well Liberty Mile registration as an individual event for $20 or as part of the P3R Megaticket for $130 or $135. The Megaticket includes registration for the 2018 GNC Live Well Liberty Mile (July 20), 2018 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler (November 4) and either the 2019 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon or 2019 UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon (May 5, 2019).
