Event supports the Muscular Dystrophy Association
CHICAGO — More than 8,000 runners are set to participate in the sold-out Byline Bank Chicago Spring Half Marathon & 10K on Sunday, May 20 in scenic Maggie Daley Park. This is the 10th annual running of the event in downtown Chicago offering athletes sweeping views of downtown Chicago, its legendary skyline and historic landmarks. Produced by Life Time®—Healthy Way of Life, the event is also expected to raise $150,000 for its official charity partner, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Since the inception of the partnership, more than $400,000 has been raised for MDA.
New this year is partner Byline Bank, who is joining as title sponsor. Together with Life Time, the nation’s premier healthy living, healthy aging and healthy entertainment brand, Byline Bank will be a driving force in providing a premier race experience for new and veteran athletes.
The Byline Bank Chicago Spring Half Marathon/10K will be the first of two races in the 2018 Chicagoland Half Marathon Series, which also includes the Chicago Half Marathon on September 23. Participants who complete in both half marathon distances will earn a custom, 26.2 Challenge finisher medal at the final event. Currently, more than 2,000 athletes are registered for the Series.
Both the half marathon and 10K (approximately 6 miles) events will start and finish on Columbus Drive alongside Maggie Daley Park. The one-loop half marathon and 10K courses will run through Chicago’s historic and scenic museum campus alongside Soldier Field and along the city’s beautiful lakefront path. The Junior Dash will take place at “The Ribbon” at Maggie Daley Park. The event kicks off with the half marathon race at 7 a.m., followed by the 10K and lastly, the Junior Dash for children ages 2-12. Award ceremonies for the half marathon and 10K will follow each race. This year’s race will feature the USA Track & Field Illinois Association 10K Championships and a local elite field vying for top honors and a $3,000 prize purse.
After participants cross the finish line, friends and family are invited to celebrate at the Spring Market Finish Festival at Maggie Daley Park. This celebration, unique to Life Time, is complete with a gourmet breakfast, a do-it yourself flower station, live entertainment and a variety of great local vendors. Athletes 21 and older will toast their finish with a complimentary beer from official race partner, Lagunitas Brewing Company.
MDA, the longtime charity partner of the Chicago Spring Half Marathon, is welcoming more than 150 participants this year via MDA Team Momentum, the race’s Official Training Charity Partner. Donations to MDA were made online when registering for the race, and proceeds from those donations will support critical research and families of those living with muscular dystrophy.
