Charlottesville Marathon Launches 2015 Charity Partner Registration with the One Love Foundation in Honor of Yeardley Reynolds Love

August 12th, 2014

Charlottesville, VA (August 12, 2014) – The Miller Lite Charlottesville Marathon, Whole Foods Half Marathon, Virginia Blood Services 8k, Donate Life Virginia Relay and Whole Kids Mile has announced a charitable partnership with the One Love Foundation in Honor of Yeardley Reynolds Love.  The Miller Lite Charlottesville Marathon is produced by Bad to the Bone LLC, a leader in the race production business.  The race, which includes the Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, 8K and Kids Mile, will take place on April 5th, 2015.  2015 will be the 13th anniversary of the Marathon, a landmark event for the City of Charlottesville.

The Foundation was established in 2010 by Sharon and Lexie Love, as well as additional family and friends to honor the memory of Yeardley Reynolds Love, who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend during the spring of her senior year at UVA.  The Foundation does business as the One Love Foundation, a reference to Yeardley’s number “one” which she wore during her high school and college lacrosse career.  The One Love Foundation mission is to end relationship violence by educating young people about the warning signs of relationship violence and helping them learn how to step up and take action.

The One Love Foundation supports various community events through its Every Yard for Yeardley (EYFY) initiative. “We are very excited to bring Every Yard for Yeardley to the Charlottesville Marathon, Half Marathon, and 8k.  The community of Charlottesville has been a center of support for the foundation and our mission.  Taking part in the Marathon events allows us to reach further into the community than ever before” says foundation spokesperson, Olive Waxter.

EYFY team members are asked to raise funds for the foundation based on the running event they will participate in:

  • Marathon Runners – $250
  • Half Marathon Runners- $200
  • Team Relay- $150 Each
  • 8K- $150
  • Sleep-In or Cheer-On for the Cause- $100

Runners are encouraged to raise more funds to support the One Love Foundation.  Fundraising participants will receive a VIP treatment at the event and those who raise more than $500 will be entered into the lottery to receive a gift basket filled with One Love merchandise.   “The mission and vision of the One Love Foundation is so important in any community and college town,” says Alyssa Godesky, Director of Marketing for Bad to the Bone, “especially one so deeply touched by the tragic loss of Yeardley. The Charlottesville Marathon looks forward to working together with the One Love Foundation to honor Yeardley’s memory and raise funds and awareness for this cause.”

Fundraising goals and efforts will be registered and tracked via crowdraising.com.
