January 14, 2015 Tyler Butterfield proudly announces a new partnership with Ekoi, the French based manufacturer of cutting-edge cycling helmets. Butterfield joins an exclusive group of world-class athletes representing the brand including Ironman World Champion Frederik Van Lierde, multiple World Champion and Olympic medalist brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee and cycling sensations Team Francaise Des Jeux.
“I’m excited to partner with such an innovative, respected brand,” said Butterfield. “Not only are Ekoi helmets scientifically engineered to be aerodynamic, lightweight and comfortable, the TT helmets are exceptionally cool looking. Above all else, Ekoi helmets are proven on the racecourse–where it matters most. The company is fantastic to work with so far and I’m looking forward to a great and lasting relationship ahead.”
Jacky Everaerdt, Communications Manager for Ekoi International, expressed equal enthusiasm about the partnership with Butterfield. “Ekoi is very popular in Europe and we’re working to increase brand awareness on an international scale,” said Everaerdt. “We look to Tyler as an elite athlete ambassador who will help bring great recognition to our brand through racing at a top level on the world stage, following in the footsteps of Ironman World Champion Frederik Van Lierde. We believe Tyler can achieve great success, and as one of the sport’s stronger cyclists and an energetic ambassador for our brand he will be an ideal addition to the Ekoi team.”
Butterfield will kick off his Ekoi-clad season with Challenge Dubai on February 27th, his first race of 2015 and the first of three competitions in the newly announced Challenge Triple Crown series. He’ll head to Dubai from his winter training base in Noosa, Australia, then return home to Boulder, Colorado, where he’ll be joined by wife Nikki and children Savana and Walker. Butterfield’s focus will then shift to preparation for Ironman Brazil on May 31, potentially incorporating Ironman 70.3 Brazil and Ironman 70.3 St. George in the build up to the full iron-distance.
About Butterfield Racing: Butterfield Racing consists of professional triathlete Tyler Butterfield and his supportive family, wife (and former fellow pro) Nikki, daughter Savana and son Walker. A native of Bermuda, Tyler’s athletic career has spanned professional cycling as well as triathlon and includes two Olympic bids (2004 & 2012, both in triathlon), three Commonwealth Games appearances (2006 in cycling and 2002 & 2014 in triathlon) and a victory at the highly competitive Abu Dhabi International Triathlon (2014). Tyler is now focused on triathlon’s “holy grail”, the Ironman World Championship, where he finished seventh in 2013. Nikki, a U23 Triathlon World Champion (2003), Australian Long Course Champion (2005) and also one-time professional cyclist–the highlight of her cycling career being a World Cup podium (2007)–hails from Australia. She famously returned to sport five months after Savana’s birth, quickly claiming both the Ironman 70.3 Syracuse title (2011) and the women’s win in Abu Dhabi (2012). After taking time off to welcome son Walker, Nikki briefly returned to racing again in late 2014, but in 2015 she made the decision to devote herself fully to her family.
