Cascade Relays is launching the inaugural San Diego Beer Chase on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 and is bringing this unique one-day “beer relay” to experience the amazing craft breweries of San Diego County, known as the “Capital of Craft.”
The San Diego Beer Chase is a one-day, six person running relay that showcases the best of San Diego County’s craft brewery scene. Starting in Escondido and traveling west to the beautiful coastline before heading south through Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, and Mission Bay to the finish in downtown San Diego. Relay runner exchange points will be hosted or sponsored by some of the region’s finest local craft breweries.
The Beer Chase Series is the first of its kind in the country featuring a one-day six-person team relay running two legs each, with brewery visits along the course route. “The Beer Chase combines the passion for fitness, friendship, and experiencing a unique running event while sampling the region’s best craft breweries. At the Beer Chase, running meets pub crawl with a splash of bachelor(ette) party,” says Cascade Relays CEO, Scott Douglass.
The San Diego Beer Chase will showcase award winning breweries such as Green Flash, 10 Barrel Brewing, Karl Strauss, Belching Beaver, and Ballast Point, along with local favorites New English Brewing, Culture Brewing, Bay City Brewing, and Amplified Ale Works. With a team of six runners, each runner can expect to run approximately 8-9 miles, split between two legs. Throughout the event, participants will sample craft beer directly from the breweries along the course route. The finish line will include a great party and craft beer from all participating breweries.
The Cascade Relays Foundation contributed $65,000 in grants in 2017 to the local community and since 2008, Cascade Relays has contributed over $300,000 to local community, school groups, and charitable organizations. Continuing that tradition of service and support of the local community, the San Diego Beer Chase is involving local organizations to provide volunteers during the race to raise funds for their organization.
